Lesson 5: Equity, Identity, and Our Role Today (3-5)

Overview/ Summary:

In this lesson, students explore the concepts of identity, equity, and civic responsibility, connecting historical struggles for fairness to their own lives today. Students learn the difference between equity and equality and examine why fairness sometimes means giving people different supports based on their needs.

Through discussion, class surveys, and opinion writing, students reflect on their identities, consider issues of fairness in school and community settings, and learn how their voices and actions can contribute to positive change. This lesson empowers students to see themselves as active participants in creating inclusive and just communities.
