In this lesson, students learn about Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the most important leaders in American history. Dr. King was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1929. As a child, he loved reading and learning, and he worked so hard in school that he skipped two grades. He later went to college and became a pastor, just like his father and grandfather. Dr. King believed that everyone—no matter their skin color—deserves to be treated fairly and kindly.
As a grown-up, Dr. King used peaceful speeches, marches, and community gatherings to help change unfair laws. His famous “I Have a Dream” speech shared his hope for a world where all children could play and learn together as equals. Dr. King taught people to solve problems without fighting and showed incredible bravery, even when things were difficult or dangerous. His leadership helped change the country and continues to inspire people today.
This lesson helps students understand how Dr. King worked for fairness, why his dream still matters, and how they can show kindness, courage, and respect in their own lives.
