Unit 12 K-2: Extension Activity
Materials Needed:
- Blank paper or a printable worksheet with a cloud or dream bubble.
- Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
Instructions:
- Talk with Students:
- Remind the class that Rev. Dr. King had a big dream: a world where everyone is treated fairly and kindly.
- Ask: “If you could dream a big dream for the world, what would it be?”
- Draw and Write:
- Have students draw a picture of their dream for the world inside a big cloud shape (for example: people playing together, helping each other, cleaning parks, everyone sharing, etc.).
- Under their picture, help students write a simple sentence starting with:
- “My dream is…”
- Examples: “My dream is for everyone to be friends.” or “My dream is for no one to be hungry.”
- Sharing:
- Invite students to stand up and share their dreams with the class if they feel comfortable.
- Hang up their artwork around the room to create a “Dream Wall” in honor of Rev. Dr. King.
Extension Idea:
To tie in Rev. Dr. King’s love for school, you can also ask:
“Rev. Dr. King loved learning. What is your favorite thing to learn in school?”
Students can draw or write about their favorite subject, too!
